People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive last year's winner and third place 2003 winner George Clooney hit the headlines more than once in 2006.At that time, he was identified as the only regular cast member from ER, a television show he played on in 1994, to win an Oscar. During this year he was also able to turn down the major starring role Sgt. John McLoughlin in the epic film World Trade Centre.
The successful trend of 2006 was fortunate as the year prior was chaotic for Clooney who had broken off a relationship with girlfriend Lisa Snowdon and suffered severely from an accident on the set of his movie Syriana. The incident meant Clooney had to undergo several spinal surgeries to recover from tremendous back pain, headaches and memory loss.
Ironically, the accident did not stop Clooney from being recognized for his acting ability having won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar that film. The award made him the second generation of his family to win an Oscar. His uncle, Jos� Ferrer, won a Best Actor Oscar for playing in Cyrano de Bergerac in 1950.
Clooney, or Gorgeous George, knows how to wind down in the off hours. He loves beer so much that he does voiceovers for Budweiser TV commercials and according to unconfirmed sources, allegedly had a beer keg installed in his dressing room during the filming of Ocean's Eleven in 2001.
The Irish American from Lexington, Kentucky also retreats to his villa in Laglio, Lake Como, Italy where he lives several months of the year.
Clooney loves the Dallas Mavericks, the show South Park and directing films.
He is the descendant of Nick Clooney, a TV newscaster of many years who hosted a talk show at Cincinnati where Clooney was often invited into the studios, even at the tender age of 5.
Clooney does not forget his roots to this day including his humble career beginnings where he had times when he event had to sleep in a friend's closet while he pounded the pavement for jobs.
