Biography
Gale may be the bright, boisterous presence on the hit dramatic series Queer as Folk but he is the proverbial quiet mouse when it comes to his personal life.
Sources even describe the Southwest Atlantan as secretive when they realize they can find out so little about him including who his parents are and what they did for a living.
Over the years though, he has revealed he has one sister.
He also lets the world know that he attended Southwest Deklab High School and his influences, of little surprise to his fans, include Jack London, Gandalf and David Bowie.
During his college years, Harold started a Liberal Arts degree in romantic literature at the American University in Washington, DC. Due to personal differences, he was unable to complete this program and went on to study fine arts at the San Francisco Art Institute.
By 1997, he was closer to recognizing what he really wanted out of life and began performing on stage with a little persuasion from his friend Suzy Landau, the producer for Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula. He was introduced to, at that time, actor and director Joan Scheckel who helped convince him to relocate to Los Angeles where he began an intense three-year period of lifestyle exploration and dramatic study. The studying paid off.
At the age of 28, Harold was accepted to and completed the Actors Conservatory Program. He worked with the classical theatre company A Noise Within and appeared in the theatrical debut of Me and My Friends as Bunny.
Other theatre credits include Long Days Journey Into Night, `The Importance of Being Ernest`, `Sweet Bird of Youth`, `Miss Julie`, The Misanthrope and Cymbelin.
In his current role on Queer as Folk, he plays the lead character Brian alongside of his acting colleagues. The show, a North American adaption of the British series with the same name, tells the continuing story of a family of friends who are all gay and dealing with the issues that sometimes go along with that.
Feature film credits for Harold include Mental Hygiene, and 36k.
