Biography
Emilio Estevez was born in New York City in 1962 to actor Martin Sheen and Janet Sheen, and since acting was in his blood, it wasn't long before Estevez followed in his father's footsteps. In fact, by the time he had graduated high school he had worked a little on Apocalypse Now, although his part was ultimately cut from the film.
When he decided to go into acting, he decided that he wanted to do it on his own terms, opting to use the original family name, Estevez, even though his father had changed his to Sheen. Not only would this help him to get roles that he deserved without people automatically connecting him to his well-known father.
In 1980 he appeared in his first television movie, Seventeen Going on Nowhere. Two years later he appeared on the big-screen in the movie Tex, before also getting another role in The Outsiders in 1983. However, his breakthrough role would come in the form of 1984's cult classic, Repo Man, when he played Otto.
Estevez caught the eye of director John Hughes and starred in his film The Breakfast Club, later that same year he also starred in Joel Schumacher's St. Elmo's Fire, earning him a spot in the group of young actors in the eighties known as "The Brat Pack." However, the next year Estevez filmed Maximum Overdrive and Wisdom, both of which ended up bombing out at the box office.
Some of his more notable roles are in The Young Guns and Mighty Ducks series. Recently Estevez has turned his eye to directing, taking on the assassination of Robert Kennedy in 2006. Estevez wrote, directed, and starred in the piece that received a seven-minute standing ovation when it premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
Estevez was once briefly married to Paula Abdul and has two children with ex-girlfriend, Carey Salley. Taylor Levi was born in 1984 and Paloma was born in 1986.
