Biography
Born as Eleanor Nancy Gow in New South Wales, Australia in 1964, Elle MacPhearson is one of the world's leading supermodels. Growing up Elle had four siblings, of which she was the oldest. When she was fourteen her parents got divorced and Elle later changed her name when her mom remarried Neil MacPherson.
Modeling was not a career that Elle chased over, but rather one that chased after her as she was discovered when she was on vacation in Tasmania. She was signed with Chick Model Management. Her worldwide fame, however, would be found through ELLE magazine, appearing in every issue for six consecutive years. Though she would be most well-known for her cover spots in the annual swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated, an honor she achieved a total of four times, three of those years being back to back.
Her popularity was even acknowledged by Time Magazine when they ran a cover, "The Big Elle" in 1986. Eight years later in 1994 Elle jumped from modeling to appear in her first film, Sirens. For the role Elle reportedly gained twenty pounds and appeared in several nude scenes. Later that year Elle appeared nude in Playboy Magazine. However, she decided not to allow the pictures to be published in Australia, fearing that her fans there might be offended.
Elle married Giles Bensimon in 1985, but got divorced only four years later. Elle later dated Arpad Busson for several years, and the couple has two sons, Arpad Flynn Alexander Busson and Aurelius Cy Andrea Busson who are also known as Flynn and Cy. Arpad and Elle broke up in 2005 reportedly because Arpad's Catholic beliefs would not allow him to married a divorced woman.
Currently Elle has several different ongoing projects including Fashion Caf�, which she owns with models Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and Claudia Schiffer. She also has her own lingerie brand, Elle MacPherson Intimates and is an active spokesperson for the breast cancer awareness campaign.
