Biography
Ella Hooper was born in 1983 in Violent Town, Victoria, Australia. In 1996 at the age of thirteen she began singing for the band Killing Heidi with her older brother, Jesse, who is the guitarist.

The band actually began when the two siblings starting playing together at their home. However, at the Violet Town Arts Festival in 1996 the two played a couple of acoustic songs that Ella had written. It was there that a local studio owner offered them some recording time. Ella and Jesse chose two schoolmates to be the bassist and drums and round out the band.

In 1996 the band submitted a the song "Kettle" to the Triple J Unearthed contest and won in their area of Victoria, Australia. A relatively well-known producer, Paul Kosky, decided to go to a live performance of the band because he was looking for some new talent for his label, Wah Wah Music. Together Kosky and Killing Heidi worked together as Kosky became the band's manager. Drummer Adam Pedretti and bassist Warren Jenkin were added to the band's lineup and they released their first album in 1999.

The album's first single, "Weir" rose quickly up the Australian music charts, or ARIA charts, to hit number six by the end of that year. Their second single, "Mascara", reached number one on the charts inside of a month and stayed there for three weeks. Both songs reached Platinum status.

The band was doing so well that anything seemed possible; however, a cyst was discovered on Hooper's vocal chords. To fix this problem she had a surgery to remove this cyst in 2001, and it took a long time for her to recover her voice. Even though Ella was still having problems with her voice the band decided to go ahead and record its second album, Present. This album and their third, self-titled, album were not as well received as their first had been.

In 2006 Killing Heidi announced that they were taking a break. Ella and Jesse have reportedly gone back to their roots, playing small acoustic performances in rural Australia. The two are supposed to release their acoustic album sometime in 2007.
