Biography
An English actress born in Basingstoke, Hampshire, in 1965, Elizabeth Hurley has managed to make a name for herself in both England and the United States. Hurley originally wanted to become a dancer and at the age of twelve she attended a private boarding school for dancing, but later decided to leave the school. Later Hurley won a scholarship to the London Studio Centre and took several courses in dance and theater.
Hurley's break actually did not come from film or dance, but rather from a local newspaper in Winchester, England where she won a "Face of the Year" competition. As the winner she received a one-year modeling contract with a London firm. In 1988 Hurley starred in a BBC movie, Christabel, as the title character, Cristabel Bielenberg. She starred in several other small movies before landing a role on the Wesley Snipes blockbuster Passenger 57 in 1992, which served to not only further her career, but also to introduce her to American audiences.
One smaller movie that Hurley had done in 1988, Remando al viento, actually impacted her life more as it starred fellow actor Hugh Grant. Hurley's relationship with Grant would continue until 2001. In 1994 Grant was caught with a prostitute named Divine Brown and Hurley found herself and their relationship thrust under an intense international spotlight. However, the pair stuck it out for seven more years, and they have remained good friends to this day. Grant is even the godfather of Hurley's son Damian who was born in 2002. Damian's father, American film producer Stephen Bing, denied that he was the father until a DNA test confirmed that he was the biological father.
Elizabeth Hurley has since gotten married to an Indian businessman, Arun Nayar, on March 2nd, 2007. The ceremony was held in secret and the couple even arranged to get married the day before they were scheduled to in order to avoid the paparazzi. The guests were told of this beforehand and Hurley was given away by music legend Elton John.
