Biography
Born in 1981 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and acting since the age of nine, Elijah Wood made his most definitive mark on American culture in his portrayal of Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Despite his success in the realm of science fiction, Wood has worked hard to make sure that his acting portfolio remains as diverse as possible to help him avoid typecasting.

While Wood had been doing small commercials and had even appeared in a Paula Abdul video, it was his short role in Back to the Future Part II in 1989 that got his career up and running. Two short years later Wood got a starring role in the 1991 film Paradise alongside Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. After that Wood's career was up and running as he began staring along big name stars like Mel Gibson, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Costner from 1992-1994.

Many child actors get bogged down in typecast roles that eventually lead their careers to take a short path; however, Woods began to take on different roles as he aged. Commercially viable films like Deep Impact and The Faculty helped assure his progression into a skilled young actor. It was this successful evolution that helped insure Wood's role as Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001.

After the final instillation of the blockbuster trilogy, Woods took on eccentric roles in movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Everything Is Illuminated, Green Street Hooligans, and Sin City. Even though he wasn't always the lead actor in these films, his performances stood out and often garnered him critical acclaim even if they didn't reach the blockbuster status of The Lord of the Rings, proving once again his impressive abilities as an actor.

Recently Woods starred in Bobby and gave his vocal talents to the animated movie, Happy Feet. He is also currently working on several projects that are due to be released in 2007. Even though he is a relatively young actor, Elijah Woods has proven more than once that he has the ability to evolve and his effective portrayal of such a wide range of characters serves to promise us that no matter what projects he chooses to take on in the future, he will dedicate himself to those roles one hundred percent.
