Biography
Eddie Vedder is a member of the rock band Pearl Jam, in which he plays guitar and is the lead singer. Vedder's deep baritone voice is one of Pearl Jam's most known marks. In addition to guitar, Vedder plays piano, drums, harmonica, ukulele, tambourine, and the accordion.

Born in Chicago in 1964, Vedder was given a guitar by his mother on his twelfth birthday. He quickly turned to music and in 1984, he moved to San Diego and began recording demo tapes while working various jobs to support himself and his girlfriend; one of his jobs was as an intern for MTV. He also joined several San Diego bands, and in 1988, became a singer for the group Bad Radio.

In 1990, Vedder left Bad Radio, and shortly thereafter, his friend Jack Irons (a former drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers) told Vedder about a Seattle band that was searching for a singer. Vedder recorded three songs for the group, and after hearing the tape, the band invited him to join them as their lead singer. Thus, Pearl Jam was created.

Vedder is known for providing vocals on most of Pearl Jams songs, although he also plays guitar and has played other instruments, including such rare items as the cowbell and the sitar, on several tracks. He is also known for playing a tambourine at Pearl Jam concerts and throwing the instrument into the crowd at the end. He also tends to warm up the crowd before concerts by playing along with either his guitar or harmonica.

Since then, Vedder has played with Pearl Jam and has worked with many other artists, including Bruce Springsteen, U2, R.E.M, the Rolling Stones, and appeared during Sleate-Kinney's last concert. He has inducted several other artists, including the Doors and Neil Young, into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Vedder was married to Beth Liebling from 1994 to 2000 and, as of 2007, is dating Jill McCormick, with whom he has a daughter. Vedder also surfs regularly and canoes. He is also a staunch environmentalist and supports many environmental causes.
