Biography
Dylan McDermott is an actor from Waterbury, Connecticut who is perhaps best known for his role a Bobby Donnell on the TV show "The Practice." In addition to that, McDermott has appeared in a number of movies, including "The Godfather."

McDermott was born on October 26, 1961, to Diane McDermott, a 15 year old Italian American, and Richard McDermott, a 17 year old Irish American. Tragedy would strike the McDermott family when Dylan was only a child: after divorcing, his mother was killed by her boyfriend. McDermott and his sister were then raised by their grandmother.

Later, McDermott would be legally adopted by his second step-mother, "The Vagina Monologues" author Eve Ensler, although she and his father would later divorce. The two, however, have always been very close, and it was she who encouraged him to pursue acting and to attend Fordham University and The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. McDermott also credits Ensler with helping him overcome his drinking problems.

In 1987, McDermott made his acting debut in "Hamburger Hill," which led to other small parts in hits such as "Steel Magnolias," "Twister," and "Jersey Girl." It wasn't until 1997, however, that McDermott's career really took off when he attended a dinner in honor of Clint Eastwood, whom McDermott worked with on "In The Line of Fire." There, he met the president of David E. Kelley productions, Jeffrey Kramer, who encouraged the young actor to audition for an upcoming Kelley television series. McDermott did, and his career took off with his role on the legal drama "The Practice." This led to many more movie offers and guest appearances. McDermott was also named to People Magazine's 50 most beautiful people in 1998.

Outside of acting, McDermott is married to fellow actress Shiva Afshar Rose, and the couple has two daughters, Colette and Charlotte. McDermott and Rose met on the day he was cast in "In The Line of Fire," his first major role.
