Biography
Dustin Hoffman is one of the top actors of his generation and, according to some, of the world. He is known for his in-depth research into every role he accepts and for his ability to completely immerse himself in his characters. He is also one of the most honored actors and has numerous awards, including two Oscars.

Hoffman was born on August 8, 1937, in Los Angeles. His mother, he says, named him after the silent movie actor Dustin Farnum. However, his namesake was not the reason Hoffman went into acting. He first attended the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music with plans of becoming a concert pianist. He then moved to Santa Monica College. Hoffman would flunk out after a year due to poor grades, but during that time, he took an acting class to boost his GPA. This set him on his career path. Also during his college years, Hoffman would room with fellow actor Robert Duvall, and the two have a good-natured rivalry over the best acting method.

Hoffman began performing at the Pasadena Playhouse with Gene Hackman, and the two soon found themselves in New York City. Hoffman worked odd jobs there until, in 1960, he got a part in an off-Broadway production. He also did occasional television commercials and appeared in bit parts on TV.

In 1966, Hoffman auditioned for the lead role in Mike Nichols movie "The Graduate" and fit the character of Benjamin perfectly. The film was a huge hit and earned Hoffman an Academy Award nomination. After that, Hoffman's career took off, and he found himself starring in hits like "Little Big Man," "All The President's Men," "Marathon Man," "Tootsie," "Dick Tracey," "Hook," and more. Recently, he has stepped back into more supporting roles, like those in "Finding Neverland," "I heart Huckabees," and "Meet the Fockers." Despite these smaller roles, Hoffman is still greatly admired for his acting ability.

Hoffman married Anne Byrne in 1969, and the two had two children (Karina and Jenna) before their divorce in 1980. Shortly thereafter, he married his current wife, Lisa Gottsegen, with whom he has four more children: Jacob, Max, Rebecca, and Alexandra. In addition to acting, Hoffman is also politically involved and is a long-time supporter of the Democratic party and of Ralph Nader
