Dustin Diamond is an actor, musician, and comedian who made a name for himself as the character Screech in the TV show "Saved by the Bell." His image, however, was later tarnished with the release of an infamous sex tape.
Born on January 7, 1977, in San Jose, Diamond attended Daniels Chapel AME Zion Elementary school. He began acting as a living mannequin in a store display, then appeared in a small role in "Cool As Ice" (although his scenes were cut). He also had a small part in "Big Top Pee-wee" before his break out role.
In 1988, Diamond won the role of nerd Samuel "Screech" Powers on the hit teen television show "Saved by the Bell." Diamond would go on to play Screech for almost thirteen years, the entire run of the series. The character was originally to have a very low voice, but Diamond's casting led the producers to instead go with a higher pitched voice. Diamond would develop the character through both the high school years and in the sequel, "Saved by the Bell: The College Years." At the end of the series, Screech returned to the high school as the principal's assistant.
Since "Saved by the Bell," Diamond appeared in several different television shows, including "The Weakest Link," "Celebrity Boxing," and "The Opie and Anthony Show." He also released a chess training video called "Dustin Diamond Teaches Chess."
Diamond has been the subject of several controversies. For a period is 2006, he claimed to be on the verge of bankruptcy and was close to losing his home in Wisconsin. He began selling t-shirts to cover his debts. However, a number of sources claim that Diamond's bankruptcy claims were merely a publicity stunt, and many who bought t-shirts from his website claim they never received them.
Later in 2006, a sex tape entitled "Screeched, aka Saved by the Smell" was released. It focused on Diamond, a bride to be, and a bridesmaid all engaging in several sexual acts. Diamond later said that he and his friends engage in a contest to see who can do the most outrageous things on film, and that he believes one of his friends left the tape out and that it was discovered by someone else and released. There is, however, some speculation that the whole tape and its release was staged to help rebuild Diamond's flagging career.
