Drea de Matteo is an actress who has appeared in a number of hit series, including "The Sopranos" and "Joey," the "Friends" spin-off starring Matt LeBlanc. de Matteo has won an Emmy award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role as Adriana La Cerva on "The Sopranos."
de Matteo was born on January 19, 1972, to an Italian-American family. She attended the famous Loyola School, and after graduating, she went on to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. There, she planned to pursue a career as a director rather than an actress. However, she changed her mind and began taking acting classes.
de Matteo's first role was in the independent film "Meet Prince Charming," a very small movie that garnered her very little attention. She then auditioned for a small guest role in one episode of "The Sopranos." de Matteo so impressed the producers that they expanded the role, and de Matteo ended up as a series regular and led to her Emmy award in 2004 and a Golden Globe nomination.
Following "The Sopranos," de Matteo joined the cast of "Joey," a spin-off of the incredibly popular series "Friends" in the role of Joey's sister. While the series was cancelled after two seasons, de Matteo's fame only increased. She appeared in several movies and was ranked #42 on Maxim's Hot 100 Women of 2001 and #56 on their 2002 list. When not acting, de Matteo has pursued a number of different career options, including owning the now-closed East Village clothing store Filth Mart.
de Matteo currently lives in New York City and, as of 2007, is dating the son of county music superstar Waylon Jennings. She speaks fluent Italian and Spanish and has several tattoos, including the names of her mother, father, and grandmother and an AC/DC tattoo.
