Biography
Donatella Versace is the sister of famous fashion designer Gianni Versace, the founder of the very successful Versace clothing empire. Donatella is also a well-known fashion designer and currently Vice-President of Versace and the Chief Designer of its fashion line. She owns twenty percent of the company and is the de facto face of Versace today.

Donatella is the youngest of three children and was born in Reggio di Calabria, Italy. Donatella was very close to Gianni, and the two both studied knitwear design in Florence. When Gianni began the Versace line, Donatella joined him, working in a number of different positions but eventually handle public relations for the company. Their brother Santo, owner of the Finanziaraia Versace branch, would later join them.

Donatella is the first fashion designer to use well known celebrities as models instead of unknowns. This move led to Versace fashions being worn by stars like Madonna and other top celebrities, and the label quickly spread through Europe and the US thanks to this strategy. While Gianni began Versace, it's commonly agreed that Donatella's marketing strategy made it a known label.

Despite the company's huge success, tragedy struck the Versace family when Gianni was murdered in 1997. The family went into seclusion after the funeral, cancelling their 1998 spring-summer collection and suspending much of the company's operations for the better part of a year. In July 1998, Donatella put on her first couture show, bringing Versace back into the fashion world.

Since then, Donatella has led the company in several new directions. Versace build the luxurious Palazzo Versace resort in Australia, the world's tallest hotel, the Burj al-Arab, in the United Arab Emirates, and is currently the creative director for the construction of the Palazzo Versace Dubai hotel, which will be completed in 2008.

Donatella was previously married to Paul Beck, an American model, and has two children with her ex-husband. Their daughter, Allegra, is the acknowledged heir to the Versace company as stated by Gianni's will. As such, she received an inheritance of $700 million when she turned eighteen and owns Gianni's Italian villa. Her brother, Daniel, inherited his uncle's rare artwork collection. Donatella and her children have a number of homes around the world and do not permanently reside in any of them, instead traveling from one to the other as needed.
