Biography
One of the outstanding comedians of this generation is certainly David Letterman. David Letterman was born on April 12, 1947. He is best known for hosting NBC's television program "Late Night with David Letterman." He was hosting this show for eleven years in a row. This show brought him up to the pedestal of fame. In 1993, he transferred to CBS and is now hosting "The Late Show." David's personal life is kept as private as possible but there are some things that can't be hidden. Letterman has been divorced. His first wife was Michelle Cook. They were college sweethearts. They got married in 1969 and got divorced in 1977.

His fiancé now is Regina Lasko who is 13 years younger. They have a son named Joseph who was born on November 3, 2003. They reside in North Salem, New York. David Letterman established the Letterman Telecommunications Scholarship in 1985. Rumors say that in order to qualify, you need to be very creative and you need to have a grade point average of C or below. Letterman denies the qualifications for a below C average but agrees that the student must be particularly creative. This scholarship itself is a very creative scholarship. It gives hope to students below the C average and at the same time makes them excel in the creativity part.

David Letterman hosted the Academy Awards in 1995. He admits that he was a horrible host during that evening. He cracked really weird jokes that no one responded to. One of David's darkest moments was when a checkup revealed that David Letterman's heart was severely constricted.

In January of 2000, he was rushed to the hospital and received a quintuple bypass. While he was recovering from surgery, a lot of his former guests hosted the Tonight Show including Drew Barrymore, Ray Romano, and Bill Murray
