Biography
David Hockney was born on July 9, 1937 in England. His mother is Laura and his father is Kenneth Hockney. Their family was described to be one of the radical working class families of their time. When Hockney was growing up, he was already an eccentric. He was so bored with Sunday School that he would end up drawing cartoons of Jesus Christ. He also developed an obsession with opera during these days. In 1948, David won a scholarship to the Bradford Grammar School. He enjoyed his art classes a lot and didn't mind his other subjects. From then on, he knew that he already wanted to become an artist. While still in school, Hockney continued to misbehave and continued to have poor grades. This did not stop him from winning awards though. During the 1960's and the 1970's, Hockney's work got international attention. His painting named "Mr. and Mrs. Clark and Percy" was in line with the concept of naturalism, which is subjects appearing as they are. Hockney was very concerned about finding a balance between pure skill and pure art. Hockney is now is based in Los Angeles. He is one of the most important contributors to British Pop Art during the 1960's and is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. He has often been regarded as the playboy of the art world because he has had a lot of promiscuous relationships. Although his lifestyle is a bit radical, his work ethic allows him to lead a financially stable life. He is one of the artists that did not struggled financially over his career. Hockney experienced success throughout the eighties and nineties. During the nineties, he was so fascinated by technologies that he used a laser copier to reproduce some of his own paintings.
