David Beckham was born on May 2, 1975. He is best known for being a professional footballer. He was on the list of Time's 100 Heroes and Icons in 2004. He started out as a footballer in 1992 at the age of 17. He played for the team Manchester United. He was important in getting the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. He became the runner up for the FIFA World Player of the Year Award twice already, in 1999 and in 2001. He is the only Englishman who has scored in three different World Cups. He was the captain of the English National Team from the year 2000 to 2006. In 2007, when Beckham left the English National Team, he joined a Major League Soccer Team in the United States. The team that he joined was Los Angeles Galaxy.

This move was an attempt to make soccer more known in the United States. His five year contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy starts on July 1, 2007. David Beckham has been known for temper on the soccer field. He is the only player to be sent off twice while playing for England. His sports career aside, David Beckham married Victoria Adams on July 4, 1999. Victoria Adams was a member of the Spice Girls and she was known as "Posh Spice." This wedding got a lot of media attention.
