Chappelle's show aimed to make fun of the stereotypes in modern American culture. This theme helped the Chappelle's show get a lot of attention from the American viewers. The Chappelle's show also has a lot of hip hop including music from Mos Def and Kanye West. The Chappelle's Show Uncensored became one of the highest selling DVD's surpassing The Simpson's Season One and South Park. Dave's father is William Chappelle, who was a professor in the arts at Antioch College in Ohio. His mother is Yvonne Seon. Dave's comedic sense was driven by idols like Eddie Murphy and Bugs Bunny. At the age of 14, he went on to do stand up comedy at Harlem's Apollo Theater. Although he was booed on stage, this moment gave him enlightenment to continue his aspirations in show business. He graduated from Washington's Duke Ellington School of Arts in 1991 where his major was in Theater Arts. He has starred in some films upon graduation.
