Biography
Daniel Marc Cohn-Bendit was born on 4th April, 1945 in Montauban, France. He was a born leader, a protestor and a good politician. When he was 18, he was entitled for dual citizenship of Germany and France, as his parents were German-Jewish. Currently he is a co-president of European Greens-European Free Alliance group in the Parliament of Europe.
In 1966 he came back to France to study sociology at Nanterre University. Later he involved himself in Anarchist federation, but left it in 1967. During May 1968 a very massive riots erupted in Paris against the government. The riots were raised by the student protestors under the leadership of Daniel Cohn. The issues of more sexual freedom, education and free love were claimed. This riot paralyzed the parts of the country and collapsed the government. At that time he had become famous as "Dany the Red".
In late 1970s, he became an editor of the alternate magazine in Frankfurt and started taking interest in eco-struggles against nuclear energy and expansion of Frankfurt airport.
In 1988 he wrote a book which recalled the moment of 1968 and had announced that he would be diverting towards more centrist policies. In 1989, he was appointed as a deputy mayor of Frankfurt, and was given charge of multi-culture affairs.
In 1994, he was elected to the European parliament, but was placed eigth on the electoral list. In the next elections of Europe, he again stepped into French politics, leading the French Green Party and in 2002 he was declared president of Green Parliamentary Group with Monica Frassoni, an italian MEP.
Deniel - Bendit led a foundation of European Green party February 2004, in the context of final governmental drafting of the text and for preparing his campaign. Although he was not aware in computer related terms, he showed his involvement in favour of free software and supported free-software for the growth in market economy and increase economical strength. He was also involved in the campaign favoring the European Constitution during the French referendum in 2005.
