Biography
Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper, who is well known as the Grammy Award winning singer and an established theatre actress was born on born June 22, 1953. Her melodious voice and revealing dressing style has always bee the centre of attraction.
Cynthia Lauper was born in a middle class family in Ozone Park, New York to Fred and Catrine. She has two younger siblings - Elen and Frank. Cynthia Lauper started showing her potential at a young age of 12, when she started composing her own songs and playing guitar. Her admiration for music was so strong that she soon left school to pursue her love for music. She moved to Canada to follow her shape her career and then came back to New York after a few years.
Career
Cynthia Lauper started her stint with the music industry when she performed with a number of bands in New York. At these occasions, she sang hit songs sung by Jefferson Airplane, Led Zeppelin, and Bad Company. She suffered with vocal problems in the year 1977, due to which she had to take a year off. After this break, Cynthia performed for the first time with her own band, which she named Blue Angel.
Soon the band released an album - Polydor. The songs of this album soon got rated high on the charts, but after this the band came to an end. At this time, Cynthia had not much of work, so she started working in some retails stores, although she continued to sing cover songs.
Fate could not stop Cynthia Lauper, and she soon shot to fame with her film debut in 1998 comedy - Vibes, along with Jeff GoldBlum and Peter Falk. In the film, she played the role of a psychic who was searching for a gold city in South America. Although, the film was a flop, but Cynthia Lauper's role got noticed.
Her soundtrack contributions like, "Hole in My Heart", "A Night to Remember"," I Drove All Night" and "Heading West" were not so successful for the lady and were critically received by the people.
After a long time in November 2003, Cynthia released "At Last" which became a huge hit in the U.S. and Australia. This showed off her skills and silenced her critics at last. She was also nominated for the Grammy Awards for her work in the album "Shine".
