Biography
Corazon Aquino, the complete name is Maria Corazon Sumulong Cojuangco Aquino. Her birth date is 25th January 1933. She was born in the a politically influential family, where her father's and mother's family both were Chinese Philippine and powerful ones.
Personal Life of Corazon Aquino
After graduation to Manila to study law and then at the age of 22 she married Benigno Aquino Jr. She has 5 children out of which 4 are daughters and a son. They go by the names of Maria, Aurora, Victoria, Kris and Benigno III. Her husband was killed after a 3 year exile at the Manila International Airport. After his death she decided to join politics.
Career of Corazon Aquino
Coming from a rich and privileged family she did most of her studies abroad. She finally did her graduation in French from the College of Mount Saint Vincent. She also studied mathematics. After she got her Presidency, she had to face the challenge of bringing her country together, she was the person to bring in a democratically- drafted constitution in Philippines. Time magazine elected her as the Woman of the Year, for the year 1986.
Through out her Presidency Corazon Aquino had to face several coup attempts from the communists, though all the attempts turned out to be the failed ones.
She has also won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for International Understanding. Throughout her career as politician she has been a supporter of democracy. Among her awards she has also won the United Nations Silver Medal, she was also a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee and the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award.
International Women's Forum Hall of Fame has also awarded her 'World's Elite Women Who Make a Difference'. She has the credit of becoming the first female President in Asia. After her retirement from politics she leads a simple life like any other citizen of her country.
