Biography
"Go ahead, make my day."

"You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"

Is there anyone out there who does not recognize these quotes? They were uttered by none other than the infamous Dirty Harry Callahan, the main character behind the very successful Dirty Harry movie franchise, starring none other than the legendary Clint Eastwood.

As seen in Dirty Harry, Clint Eastwood is known for his tough and gritty characters. It was a mould that first saw light in Clint Eastwood's performance as The Man with No Name in the trilogy of spaghetti westerns directed by Sergio Leone, namely A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966). The Man with No Name is Clint Eastwood's breakthrough role in Hollywood.

The Dirty Harry franchise itself consists of five pictures: Dirty Harry (1971), Magnum Force (1973), The Enforcer (1976), Sudden Impact (1983), and The Dead Pool (1988). It is interesting to note that while Clint Eastwood is most famous for playing Harry Callahan, the role did not come to him until four other actors rejected the part. The character was originally written for Frank Sinatra, who turned down the part after citing an injured hand. Clint Eastwood also directed and produced Sudden Impact.

Clint Eastwood also has roles that show his range beyond the gritty, tough-cop role. He did comedy in Pink Cadillac (1989) and The Rookie (1990). He also directed and starred in the romantic drama The Bridges of Madison County (1995) opposite Meryl Streep.

Clint Eastwood's body of work as an actor is extensive, spanning forty years and almost sixty movies. However, he received more acclaim as a director rather than as an actor. He was nominated for an Academy Award eight times for his directorial work on the films such as Unforgiven (1992), Mystic River (2003), Million Dollar Baby (2004) and Letters from Iwo Jima (2006). He won twice for Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, being one of only three directors who have attained two Oscars in directing. Clint Eastwood was also nominated an Academy Award for his acting in these two films.
