Biography
Christina Ricci is considered to be one of the very few people in Hollywood who have successfully made the transition from being a child star to a more mature and serious actress. Though she has seen the peak of her popularity through a string of hit movies in the 1990s, what gave her her first break was her role in a school play called The Twelve Days of Christmas, which she did when she was eight years old. Her film debut was in Mermaids (1990), which starred Cher and Winona Ryder.
Christina Ricci's ticket to fame came through the role of Wednesday Addams, the morbid little girl in The Addams Family (1991), a role that she reprised in The Addams Family Values two years later. Not only did this part set Christina Ricci for her predominantly dark and disturbed roles in her future movies, but it also opened for her the doors to instant recognition. She became a widely sought preteen actress, which led to starring roles in hit movies like Casper (1995) and Now and Then (1995).
Acclaimed director Ang Lee's The Ice Storm (1997) provided Christina Ricci the vehicle to undergo her metamorphosis from childhood to young adulthood in cinema. In this movie, she played Wendy Hood, a budding nymphomaniac who pokes through her neighbors' lingerie and underwear drawers. This led to a string of similar provocative roles in independently produced and critically acclaimed films. Later on, she starred in other hit studio films like Sleepy Hollow (1999) opposite Johnny Depp; The Man Who Cried (2000), also with Johnny Depp; Prozac Nation (2001), which featured her first nude scene; and Monster (2003), the film that won Charlize Theron her Academy Award for Best Actress.
Christina Ricci currently owns and runs her own production company, Blaspheme Films. A Christian, she also sits on the national board of VOX-Voices for Planned Parenthood.
