Biography
Christian Michael Leonard Hawkins was born on 18th of August, 1969. Slater inherited show business from his stage actor dad Michael Hawkins and casting director mom Mary Jo Slater. Christian made his debut as an actor when he was cast by his mother in the TV soap opera 'One life to live. Next year Slater got a chance to act in 'The Music Man' on Broadway where he starred with Dick Van Dyke.
Slater would do a couple of other productions with Broadway before he jumped into movies. As a child he studied at Manhattan's Professional Children's School. Slater made his TV debut in the movie 'Living Proof'. Slater made his debut in movies at the age of 16 with the movie 'The Legend of Billy Jean'.
However he got his big break when he was selected to work along with Sean Connery in 'The Name of the Rose' (1986). This gave Slater a recognizable performance in the industry. In 1988 he appeared in Tucker, a Man and His Dream. In 1990 he played the role of a high school geek with a cool secret life in 'Pump up the Volume'. In 1996 romantic 'Bed of Roses' and the all time box office hit 'Broken Arrow' lead Slater to new heights.
In 1997, Slater delivered a great performance in Julian Po's production. He grew a moustache and put on several pounds of weight to add a touch of reality to the role of a suicidal bookkeeper who embellishes money from his company to fulfill his final wish. The turning point in Slater's career came with the movie 'Heathers'. In this he played the role of a sociopath co-starring opposite to Winona Ryder. This movie gave Slater the status of a superstar. Today Christian Slater is a household name around the world.
