Born on 12th June 1941 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Chick Corea's birth name was Armando Anthony Corea. Today he is a multiple Grammy award winning American Jazz pianist, keyboardist and composer.

His father introduced him to the piano at the tender age of five. His farther led a band called Dixie land in the 1930s and 1940s in Boston. Chick grew up surrounded by jazz music. At the age of eight Chick took up drums which later gave him the ability to play piano as a percussion instrument. It was Salvatore Sullo a concert pianist who introduced Chick to classical music which sparked his interest in musical composition.

He was introduced to Latin music by the Portuguese band leader and trumpet player Phil Barboza and conga drummer Bill Fitch. Later he moved to New York where he took up music lessons at the Columbia University for one month and six month at the Julliard School. It was at New York where his professional career started to climb in the 1960s playing with trumpeter Blue Mitchell, Willie Bobo, Herbie Mann and Mongo Santamaria.

One of his earliest recordings is 'The thing to do'. His first album 'Tones for Joan's Bones' came out in 1966 and two year later he released his legendary album 'Now he sings, now he sobs'. He has been associated with many avant grade players and during this time he released some of his landmark albums like Filles de Kilimanjaro, In the silent way and Bitches Brew while in Mile Davis's band. Some of his major performances can be found on albums like Miles Davis, Black Beauty: Miles Davis at Fillmore west.

Later he left Miles Davis' band as they became increasingly funk based and formed his own group 'Circle' which was active from 1970-71. In 1971 he founded 'Return to Forever' which had a jazz fusion sound. 'Captain Marvel' is one of the albums of this band. In 1992 he started his own record company Stretch Records. In 1999 he composed 'Spain' a full symphony orchestra and performed at London Philharmonic orchestra. In 2001, Chick released Past, Present and Futures.

In 2004 he released jazz fusion concept albums like 'To the stars' and 'Ultimate adventure' and in 2006 he won the Grammy Award for best Jazz instrumental album, Individual or group.
