Biography
Charles Wade Barkley is one of the famous NBA players who garnered the record of more than 23,000 points, 12,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists. He is often called "Sir Charles" and "Round Mound of Rebound" by his colleagues and fans. He stands six feet and 4 inches tall but is still regarded as the shortest in his position in the basketball. During his first season in NBA as a Phoenix Suns player, he was awarded MVP of the year 1993.
He is known for his trademark baldness. He became famous in a Nike commercial where he popularized the quote "I am not a role model. Parents should be the role models". In the years 1992 and 1996, Charles won an award in Olympics as a gold medalist. In the same year, he was claimed as one of NBA's Top 50 Players of All-Time. And in year 2006, he was nominated for NBA's Hall of Fame. He is regarded as the most powerful rebounder in the basketball league history despite his height. He is also a very versatile player due to his flexible abilities in rebounding, scoring, assisting and defending. However, Charles' many injuries began to take a toll and almost brought him an early retirement from his basketball profession.
Aside from Charles' basketball career, he also appeared in several movies such as "Space Jam", "The Year of the Yao" and "He Got Game". He is also fond of writing and has published his own written book entitled "I May Be Wrong, But I Doubt It". He is also an undisclosed charity donor to children's welfare and a community contributor to Alabama schools. Charles has been very transparent in admitting publicly that he lost almost ten million dollars worth of assets because of gambling.
In February 9, 1989, Charles got married to Maureen Blumhardt and had one child. He and his family currently reside at Scottsdale, Arizona. His best friend is Michael Jordan.
