Biography
Chaka Khan musical bombshell is best, known for her superb 1984 cover of ace singer Prince's album "I Feel for You," Chaka Khan enjoyed both solo successes as well as great popularity as a singer and performer in the group Rufus. Born in Great Lakes, IL, on 23rd March 1953, she performed for the first time at the young age of 11 and created her own group - the Crystalettes. While she was still completing her high school education, she became a part of the Afro arts theatre. She quit high school in 1969 and joined a musical group called Lyfe. She soon left it and became apart of another -the Babysitters; Neither the band nor Chaka gained the reputation they deserved but her fortunes changed for the better when she joined hands with Kevin Murphy and André †isher to form the infinitely popular band, Rufus.
The band debuted in the year 1973 and was distinguished by the dynamic vocals of the talented singer. They produced hits after hits and cut several gold and platinum albums before Chaka decided to part ways and go solo in 1978. Chaka made a grand entry in the singles circle with the hit "I'm Every Woman". However, her success was slightly dampened by her very public rivalry with the members of Rufus.
In the year 1982, Khan recorded the album "Echoes of an Era", a melodious collection of jazz songs that also featured path breaking performances from singers like Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, and other greats. Her pop music career became shaky when her album "I Feel for You", got released. Chaka relocated to Europe towards the end of 1990s as her as pop music status waned. In the year 1990, she was able to win another Grammy award for the album "I'll Be Good to You."
