Chad Smith was born in Minnesota on the 25th of October 1961. He later migrated to the to Michigan City, where he ran away from home, before he completed his schooling. He returned however with a dog. He looked like a perfect tramp and his mother unable to see him turn into a vagabond sent him of to a boarding school. The dog however was allowed to stay. Chad worked in various jobs, but his passion had always been beating the drums. He was an ace drummer and had played for several bands. After reaching the age of twenty he moved to California, started living with his brother, and then went to Los Angels where he auditioned for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. His audition was a success and he was invite to join the band and is still playing for them.
He married for the first time in 1996, but the marriage didn't last and the couple separated a year later following the birth of their daughter. In 1998, Chad became the proud father of a son who has been christened Justin. In 2004, he married the beautiful young architect Nancy Mark and they have a son together. Chad has played for several musicians from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, including greats like Dave Navarro, the master Glenn Hughes, and of course Wu Tang Clan and John Frusciante. He has also made five albums with his current band and is currently in the process of recording his sixth.
The kit that Chad uses, includes Pearl Drums and Sabian Cymbals and he has currently been sporting a new custom designed Pearl Ceelite drum kit which he only uses during live performances. He has also got Pearl to fashion for him his own signature snare drum.
