Celina literally means the moon Goddess. And how right her parents were when for naming her so! For today she shines like a full moon in the world of glamour. She made it big in the Miss India contest and missed the top slot by a ridiculously small margin. She was judged as the forth runner up in the Miss Universe beauty contest 2001, held in Puerto Rico. Celina, like so many other glamour girls, is an army man's proud daughter and perhaps it was because of the values of hard work and dedication she received at home, that she has risen so quickly in Bollywood.
Her father was a Punjabi who was an officer in the Indian Army. Her mother is from Afghanistan. Celina was born in 1981, and is 5"6' tall. She had to keep changing schools due to her father's frequent transfers and had changed 13 schools by her board exams. Her family is currently residing in Bangalore and there was a time in her life that Celina had contemplated appearing for the Combined Defense Services exam.
But thank God she didn't. She got a commerce degree and got a job in the marketing division of a Mobile phone company based in Kolkatta. She was egged on by her friends to participate in a local beauty pageant and to everybody's surprise she won the contest. This boosted her morale and she sent her pictures for the Miss India contest. The rest is indeed history. She bagged the prestigious title and went on to participate in the Miss Universe beauty Contest. Celina didn't disappoint her supporters and was adjudged as the fourth runner up; in contest where beauties form 83 countries had participated.
The next step for her was joining the Indian movie industry, Bollywood. She made her debut in Feroze Khan's thriller Janasheen where she was paired opposite Feroze's own son Fardeen. Despite the fact that her role required her to clad herself in nothing more than a two piece bikini, her figure couldn't do much for a movie that was written off by the critics as one of the biggest cliché³ of the year.
Her next venture Khel which starred stalwarts like Sunny Deol and Sunil Shetty to couldn't live up to the hype and sank even before the first week had ended. Though she has still not made a mark in Hindi films, Celina Jaitley has everything going for her in a bid to achieve the super stardom.
