Biography
Carole King was born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 9th, 1942. Carol was a talented pianist from four years of age and became a skilled songwriter by the time she was a teenager. She did her college in Queen's College, New York. It was here that she met her future husband and partner Gerry Goffin.
Gerry's amazing talents with lyrics added to King's musical genius. Some of her famous singles included 'The right girl' (1958), 'Baby Sittin', 'Queen of the beach' (1959), before recording 'Oh Neil' (1960), a riposte to Sedaka's 'Oh Carol'. Don Kirshner signed the King/Gerry team to his musical team.
Working for this music company they achieved premature success with the Shirelles ('Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow'), Bobby Vee ('Take good care of my baby') and the Drifters ('Up on the roof'). The duo also arranged, produced and wrote hits for Little Eva ('The Loco-Motion') and the Cookies ('Chains' and 'Don't say nothin' bad (about my baby)'). However it was a song written keeping Bobby Vee in mind, 'It might as well rain until September', that brought King a solo hit in 1962.
King then relocated to Los Angeles and got into a contract with Lou Adler's Ode label. She then began an independent career in 1970 with Writer, before joining up with Tapestry. This glowing selection held several of her most wonderful compositions, namely 'You've got a friend', which reached the no. 1 position in the US charts.
Tapestry then went to become a great fortune for King selling millions of copies each year. After a number of years King released 'Love makes the world', on her own. This album is her finest collection of songs since Tapestry and proves her great ability to create music and rule in the music world even after such a long time.
