Carlos Menem is also known as Carlos Sa?nem Akil. He was born on 2nd July, 1930 in Anillaco, La Rioja in Argentina. His parents were Sa?nem and Mohibe Akil, and he has a brother named Eduardo Menem. His family was immigrants from Syria. In his youth, Menem was deeply interested in art and had a brief stint with a vocational theatre group. In 1951, he represented his college in a national basketball championship and went to Buenos Aires where he met the-then president General Juan Domingo Peron.
He graduated in Law at the age of 25 from the University of Cba in 1955. He carried out extensive campaigns as a supporter of Juan Pernd legally represented the political prisoners. Consequently he was arrested in 1957. Later he founded the Juventud Peronista in his State. Carlos Menem converted to Roman Catholicism from Islam but his ties with Syria remained unfazed. In 1966 he married Zulema Fᴩma Yoma, whom he had met in Syria. They had one daughter, named Zulema Maria Eva Menem and one son, whom they called Carlos Sa?cundo Menem Yoma. He served as the President of the Syria-Lebanese Association of La Rioja.
He was elected Governor of the Province of La Rioja on 11th March, 1973. In 1976, the government was overthrown and the de facto government kept Menem imprisoned for 5 years until democracy was restored. On October 1983, Menem was re-elected as Governor. On 14 May 1989, he was voted the President of the nation. In 1991 Menem divorced Zulema. Their daughter Maria Eva accomplished the role of First Lady with grace and poise at all political occasions. In 1995, Menem's only son died in a helicopter crash. In May 2001, Menem married former Miss Universe 2007, Cecilia Bolocco, who is 35 years younger to him. The couple gave birth to a child whom they named Mḩmo Menem.
