Biography
Carla Gugino, the renowned actress, was born on 29th August, 1971 in Sarasota, Florida. She spent most of her early childhood relocating from one place to another with her mother. Later she graduated as the valedictorian of her class. She embarked on her modeling career at the age of 15, and went to New York. Soon she returned to California and moved in with her aunt who was a former spokeswoman for a television game-show. Her aunt encouraged her to take up acting lessons.
Carla debuted with a guest appearance in the tele-series 'Who's the Boss' in 1988. She also appeared in 'Alf' and 'The Wonder Years', and became a regular artist in the final season of 'Falcon's Crest', between 1989 and 1990. Gugino's first silver-screen feature-film was 'Troop Beverly Hills' in 1989. Next 'Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael', starring Winona Ruder, was released in 1990. In 1992 she starred in the HBO movie 'A Private Murder' and the NBC film 'Murder without Motive': The Edmund Perry Story opposite Cuba Gooding Jr. Her first lead role was opposite Pauly Shore in 'Son in Law'.
She played the girlfriend of Michael J. Fox in ABC's series 'Spin City' and garnered good reviews. She provided her voice for an animated canine character in Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco, along with Fox. She acted opposite Nicholas Cage in the thriller Snake Eyes by Brian De Palma in 1998. Then she went on to become the co-producer of the film 'Judas Kiss' where she acted alongside Emma Thompson.
In 1999 Gugino was selected as the spokesperson for L'Oreal hair products and featured in an advertisement campaign on national television. She appeared opposite Antonio Banderas in the 'Spy Kids' trilogy and opposite Jet Li in the martial arts epic The One. Her best performance till date was that of a stripper in Wayne Wang's 'The Centre of the World'.
Her first lead role in television happened with Karen Sisco on ABC. However the show went off-air soon. Gugino received the Theatre World Award for her Broadway debut as Maggie in 'After the Fall'. She continues to act for television as well as the big-screen, and is all set to hog the spotlight for the years to come.
