Klein has revolutionized the fashion industry with his very innovative and genuine designs and concepts. He, being the only person who was able to portray a non traditional definition of the men's underwear from merely being functional to being desirable garment, was awarded the Council of Fashion Designer of the Year.
Calvin Klein was born on November 19, 1942, in Bronx, New York, and studied Fashion Design at Manhattan's Fashion Institute of Technology from 1959-1962. After which, he then acted as assistant to Dan Millstein, an equally famous designer, for two years. With his strong and bold determination to have a name in the fashion industry, Klein, together with his friend, Schwartz, established Calvin Klein Incorporated. Initially set up to design and sell women's coats, his garments became popularly loved when Bonwit Teiler, a representative from an exclusive department store spotted Klein's works. This led to his works being featured in magazines such as Vogue and Harper's and Queens.
After the success of his coat collection, the introduction of his classic, trademark jeans has added and heightened his early success. The designer's jeans became an instant hit with Brooke Shields doing the controversial advertising campaign. To date, his products have gone numerous ranging from scanty apparels to fragrances to eyewear and even cosmetics making the Calvin Klein Empire - The Calvin Klein Collection (Men, Women, and Home); cK for Men and for Women; cK Jeans providing for Men.
