One of the voices in the super hit USA for Africa's "We are the World" song is Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen, popular to many as Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen.
Springsteen, although has made many great hits, is still popularly known with his "Born in the USA" song which was on the UK Chart for two-and-a-half years and that which sold over 12 million copies.
Born on September 23, 1949, at Freehold, New Jersey, USA, Bruce has a mixture of various cultures. Adele, his mother, is Italian and Douglas, his father, has Irish and Dutch bloodlines. He was born on the same day as Ray Charles and the great actor Jason Alexander. Prior to becoming a music icon, he wanted to be a baseball player. However, after watching the "Ed Sullivan Show", his passion for music was unleashed and fell in love with rock n' roll type of music. And as they say, the rest is history.
He is at present married to Patti Scialfa, who used to be his back-up singer, with three children, Evan James, Jesssica Rae, and Sam Ryan. His marriage with Julianne Phillips which started in 1985 had ended on a divorce in 1989.
"The Boss" has gone very far both in terms of achievements and life experiences. He is involved in many political and social awareness activities. Having participated in the Vote for Change concert tour organized to encourage the defeat of George w. Bush in the U.S. presidential election in the fall of 2004. He was covered on both The Newsweek and Time Magazine simultaneously, when in those times, only world leaders are being given such. He was also voted as the 23rd Greatest rock n' Roll artist of All Time by Rolling Stone. He was inducted to the Rock n' roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and was awarded the Polar Music Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 1997. The most current in his line of achievement is his nomination on the 2007 inaugural New Jersey Hall of Fame for his services to Music and Entertainment.
