Considered as one of the most prominent English players, Sir Robert Charlton (Bobby Charlton) was a professional Football player. He was born in Ashington, Northumberland on October 11, 1937. Most of his football life was spent with the Manchester United. When he was young, Charlton's mother trained him on how to play football as well as his Uncle Jackie who is actually a professional football.
In 1956, he started to play for United until he formally signed up as a member of the team. His mother was not at first convinced that he can make a career as a football player so instead he took Engineering apprenticeship.
Charlton was a big help to England's triumph. He was successful in the league championships (both FA and European Cup). In 1966, he was chosen as European Football of the Year. Then, England their first World Cup when Charlton was the team's captain. He played approximately seven hundred fifty games for Manchester's United.
When West Germany defeated England (1973), Charlton retire from international football. But that did not stop him in pursuing his career in sports. In the same year, he became manager (and player) of Preston North End. Later on, he thought that the position was not right for him so left the team. Then he became director of Wigan Athletic. Furthermore, he owned travel and jewelry businesses. Additionally, he established soccer schools in different countries which inclues UK, Canda, USA, Australia and China.
A CBE was awarded to Charlton in 1974 and he received a Knighthood in 1994. Then in 2002, he was inducted in the Hall of Fame at National Football Museum.
Charlton married Norma Ball, whom she met at a Manchester's ice rink, in 1961. And the couple had two siblings named Suzanne and Andrea. Suzanne was became a TV Personality when he joined BBC as weather forecaster
