Biography
A known Philantropist and Rock Musician, Bob Geldof lead an Irish band called Boomtown Rats, which started in the 70's. He also became famous in organizing Live Aid Concerts.
Boomtown Rats released their single entitled "I Don't Like Mondays" in 1979 which became a hit in United Kingdom and even internationally. He also recorded a the song "DO They Know It's Christmas together with Bono, Paul McCartney, Sting, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, George Michael and other Pop Musicians, where Eight Million Euros were raised because of the sold copies for this single.
Although he was seen to turn into political activist, his objective in organizing the Christmas song was to raise funds to help Africa with their starvation problem. This song became very popular and Live Aid concerts (which are actually concerts for a cause) were established. It was first held simultaneously on July 13, 1985 in in the JFK Stadium, Philadelphia and Wembley Stadium, London. He was able to raise funds of around fourty Million Euros for the said event.
Geldof was so passionate about his goal of raising funds to alleviate food crisis. He was so persistent, traveled all over the world to insist popular singers to perform in the Live Aid concerts. Some of the artists that helped him are Elton John, Eric Clapton, Madonna, Queen and Phil Collins. Because of this, he was became a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee and in 1986, he received an Honorary Knighthood.
Geldof was in County Dublin, Ireland on the fifth of October 1951. He went to Blackrock College and started his career as music journalist for a publication in Canada. Then, he became the Boomtown Rats' lead singer when he returned to Ireland. In 1986, he married Paula Yates (British personality) and had three offspring named Pixie, Peaches and Fifi Trixibelle. But in 1995, Paula and Bob got separated but Geldof got the custody of their children.
