Bob Robert Beamon is a great Olympic Gold Medalist for setting the world record in Long Jump category. Not only that, he was able to retain the world record on his hands for 23 years. He started by setting a record of 8.90 meters in 1968 Summer Olympics, which was held in Mexico City.

Bob was from Jamaica, New York and born on August 29, 1946. Her mother died of tuberculosis when he was an eight-month-old baby and his grandmother raised him very well. However, during his younger years, he joined a gang that exposed him to violence. At one time he was about to be imprisoned because of misconduct. But he was given a second chance, which he took positively.

Bob's long jumping skills was first noticed when he won the Junior Olympics record in New York state during his years in Jamaica High School situated in Long Island, New York. He did not have a trainer yet a g to further enhance his skills until he qualifies for the Olympic Games in Mexico City at the age of 22. Thus, Ralph Boston (USA) and Igor Ter-Ovanesyan's (USSR) record was beaten by about two feet.

During the event, Bob even collapsed and have to seek help so he could stand. A book named "The Perfect Jump" was even created by Dick Schaap He was the only Long Jump Medalist to reach 28 feet and later became 29 feet.

With Beamon's remarkable performance in Olympics and his achievements, a new word in the English Dictionary was added which is Beomonesque. It means a "athletic feat." However in 1991, Mike Powell beat Bob's record at the World Championships held in Tokyo, Japan.

Although he was a very successful athlete, Bob Beamon was still able to finish his Degree in Sociology in Adelphia University right after his Success in Olympics.
