Biography
Known as the "Piano Man," Billy Joel was actually born as William Martin Joel on May 9, 1949 in Bronx New York, USA. Billy Joel is a multitalented artist who could sing, play the piano, guitar, harmonica and accordion.

A six time Grammy Award winner, Billy Joel had topped the hits in the 70s to 90s and sold more than 100 million records. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Billy Joel is the 6th best selling multitalented artist in the United States since the release of his first song "Piano Man."

Joel's passion in music, particularly that of European and classical music was developed further due to his mothers persistent request for him to study piano. Because of this, he was always the subject of the school bullies as he focused himself in music than in sports. In return and for self-protection, Billy Joel learned boxing and he successfully became an amateur boxer in the Golden Gloves circuits.

He was about to graduate in 1967 but he missed one English credit made him not eligible for the graduation. He decided not to take the summer class for one English credit only and thought that he can actually begin career music even without a diploma. Now, after 25 years, Billy Joel claimed his High School diploma and graduated in the Hicksville High School after he left school.

Joel was a member of The Hassles, a local band in the Long Island that made the song "Every Step I take" and "You got me Hummin" popular. Unfortunately, The Hassles' popularity faded in the 1969 and Billy Joel decided to form a pop rock band with the Hassles' drummer Jon Small. Sadly, the newfound band did not last in the music industry and was disbanded in October of the same year, 1970.

Billy Joel was married to his manager Elizabeth Weber from 1971 to 1983. He then remarried on March 23, 1985 to Christie Brinkley, a supermodel to whom he had a daughter named Alexa Ray Joel. Idol divorced Brinkley and remarried for the third time to Katie Lee, a culinary artist.
