Biography
One of the legends of the alternative rock music industry, Billy Idol has established his name beyond compare. Born as William Michael Albert Broad, Idol became a punk rock musician in the 1980s. Idol was born on November 30, 1955 in Middlesex England.
Billy Idol was not his real name but an inspired name given to him by a teacher when explaining his last name "broad" as idle.
Idol is a versatile singer and a guitar player. He does switch roles many times from lead vocals to guitars. His first band was the Sioxsie and the Banshees established in 1976. The following year, Idol quit the band and co-found the new group they called Generation-X.
The new band released total of three albums before members quit again. That time, Idol moved to New York City and worked as a solo musician. He actually worked for Cat Stevens later on. In 1986, Idol released his new album entitled Whiplash Smile and proved to be a real success. In the same album, the greatest hits "To be A lover," "Don't need a gund," and "Sweet Sixteen."
Idol's music career already reached its peak. In 1990, prior to the release of his new album entitled Charmed Life, Idol encountered a motorcycle accident almost loosing his leg. In that event, Idol's new album became a hit-selling album.
Unfortunately, after the accident and the release of Charmed Life album, Idol succumb to drug addiction despite the release of a new album in 1993 he called "Cyberpunk." Idol's substance addiction almost lost his life in 1994 due to overdose.
As one of the comeback artists, he returned to the public eye when he guest starred in the hit romantic comedy "Wedding Singers" opposite Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Then, in November 2006 he released the album Billy Idol: Happy Holidays adding up to the lists of the Christmas Albums recorded in the music industry.
