Biography
A talented movie actor, comedian, writer, producer and a film director, Billy Crystal was born on March 14, 1948. He was born in Long Beach, New York to a Jewish family of Jack and Helen Crystal. Crystal was the youngest among the three siblings and his father was in the music business for quite sometime.
When his father died of heart attack at the age of 54, Crystal started appreciating music and all his father's accomplishment when he was still alive. His mother Helen took care of the whole family during that critical time in their lives.
Motivated to pursue what his father left behind, Crystal's unique talent has been manifested and enhanced. Thus, at the age of 16, a year after his father's death, Crystal initiated his stand-up-comedy career.
Torn between acting and baseball, Crystal spent long hours playing baseball with his brother during summers. His passion for baseball made him the varsity captain during his senior years. His hard work paid off when he was granted a scholarship from Marshall University in West Virginia. Unfortunately, he was suspended during his freshmen year when he never actually stopped playing baseball while he supposed to be concentrating on his studies.
This suspension made him decide to move to another university in Nassau Community College. In the same institution, Crystal met his future wife Janies Goldfinger. He married Goldfinger in 1970 and they have two daughters.
In the same year, Crystal graduated from the New York University and worked as a substitute instructor. In 1977 however, Crystal landed a big role as a gay Jodie Dallas on the sitcom "Soap." Even the sitcom ended in 1981, Crystal manages to maintain his acting career as a stand-up-comedian. Some of the prominent films had were When Harry met Sally opposite Meg Ryan in 1989 and City Slickers released in 1991.
