One of the A-lists actors of this century, William Robert Thornton is an Academy Award actor, screenwriter, director, playwright and a singer. This multitalented man is famous persona in the entertainment industry and Angelina Jolie's former husband.
Thornton was born on August 4, 1955 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. His parents were William Raymond Thornton, a History teacher and a basketball coach and Virginia Faulkner, a psychic by profession.
Billy Bob's early career in the industry is a musician and a singer in a band called Tres Hombres. He later decided to pursue acting and writing career. In 1981 he moved to Los Angeles with Tom Epperson, his childhood friend. It was a hard hit for Thornton who was just a beginner in the entertainment industry. When he was given a big break in the movie One False Move in 1992, which he co-written with his friend Epperson, he suddenly became popular. His career as an actor and playwright was given more attention after the Sling Blade movie, which was released in 1996. Sling Blade was written and directed by Thornton himself.
Aside from writing movies, Thornton has a natural inclination of music. In fact, in the late 1990s, he began writing music and started his career as a singer-songwriter. Some of his albums were Private Radio released in 2001, The Edge of the World released in 2003 and Hobo released in 2005.
Sling Blade was a sure hit but one of his promising roles recently was in the 1998 hit movie Armageddon where he played Dan Truman, the NASA Administrator.
Thornton has been so vocal about his obsessive- compulsive disorder and made friends with a rock singer named Warren Zevon. This disorder was made obvious with some of his characters in the movies like Dwight Yoakam in the movie Sling Blade.
Lastly, Thornton married five times already and his current girlfriend is Connie Angland. Thornton believes that marriage is not really for him so he said he would likely not to remarry.
