Biography
Benjamin Bratt is an actor, best known for playing the role of Detective Rey Curtis on the popular TV police procedural "Law & Order". He has a long acting career in television and film spanning over a decade.
Benjamin Bratt was born in San Francisco, California on December 16th, 1963. After graduating Lowell High School, he earned his bachelor's degree at the University of California in Santa Barbara. He started working as an actor after college, finding his first job on the 1987 show Juarez about a Mexican American detective, which never appeared on television despite being filmed. Benjamin Bratt's following roles for the next few years were primarily on television. He played the character of Tony Maldonado on six episodes of "Knightwatch", then appeared in one off roles for shows like "Nasty Boys", "One Good Cop", "Shadowhunter", "Chains of Gold" and "Capital News". He started to find film roles in the early nineties, appearing alongside Sylvester Stallone in the poorly reviewed "Demolition Man" in 1993, but also finding parts in the movies "Bound By Honor", "Clear and Present Danger", and "Follow Me Home".
In 1995, Benjamin Bratt started playing the character of Detective Rey Curtis. He would go on to play the character for four years on the shows "Homicide: Life on the Streets", and "Law & Order", as well as the Law & Order TV movie "Exiled" in 1998. He played the character for nearly one hundred episodes in total.
Since the turn of the millennium, Benjamin Bratt has tended to appear in film roles, although he has recently appeared in a continuing role as Major Jim Tisnewski on "E-Ring". Benjamin Bratt appeared in the critically well received "Traffic" in 2000. He has also made film appearances in "Red Planet", "Miss Congeniality", and "Catwoman". As of early 2007, Benjamin Bratt's upcoming roles include "Guerilla", "The Argentine", and "Love in the Time of Cholera".
