Biography
Benicio Del Toro is a Puerto Rican film actor. He has appeared in numerous action roles as well as "The Usual Suspects" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". He has won the Academy Award and Golden Globe.
Benicio Del Toro was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on February 19th, 1967. He grew up there, but later moved with his family to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, where he went to high school. He didn't consider acting as a career until college at the University of California in San Diego, when he tried a drama course and was inspired to start studying acting full time at the Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York and with various Los Angeles acting teachers. He kept his ambitions quiet until he began to find work.
Throughout the eighties, Benicio Del Toro started to find television roles. He was mostly cast as thuggish villains. He also found occasional similar film roles. In "License to Kill", Benicio Del Toro became the youngest Bond villain ever cast. More movie roles came Benicio Del Toro's way during the early nineties, including "Money for Nothing", "Swimming with Sharks", "China Moon" and "Fearless". Benicio Del Toro's first breakthrough performance was as Fred Fenster in "The Usual Suspects", for which he won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor. His next high profile role was Doctor Gonzo in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", where he played alongside Johnny Depp. While many panned the film at the time of its release, it has been seen in a better light in years since and has become a cult classic.
