Biography
Ben Stiller is a popular American actor. He is best known for his comedic movie roles, and has worked as a professional comedian as well as taking an increasing role in directing and producing films. He is one of the highest earning comedy stars in the world, and has made nearly one and a half billion dollars in gross over the course of his career.
Ben Stiller was born in New York City on November 30th, 1965. His parents were well known comedians Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller. As a child he traveled with his parents frequently, sometimes making appearances with them on TV talk shows. His first professional acting job was on the TV show "Kate McShane" with his mother. He was interested in recording films as a child, and decided to try comedy when he saw "Second City Television" while in high school. After graduating high school, he attended the University of California for almost a year before returning to New York to look for work acting.
Among Ben Stiller's early successes were a five episode appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1989, which he got on the strength of a mockumentary he had filmed with his Broadway friend John Mahoney. However, he left the show because they didn't want to let him continue filming videos. After putting together more comedy films during the early nineties including "Elvis Stories" and "Back to Brooklyn", Ben Stiller got a weekly show on MTV to cover comedy TV shows behind the scenes. Many of Ben Stiller's friends, including Bob Odenkirk, Janeane Garofalo and Andy Dick started their careers on the strength of Ben Stiller's show. Ben Stiller continued to direct throughout the nineties films like "Reality Bites" and "Cable Guy".
Ben Stiller's career really took in 1998, however, when he turned more to acting and starred in "There's Something About Mary". This was the first in a series of highly successful comedy films starring Ben Stiller which included "Mystery Men", "Meet the Parents", "Zoolander", "The Royal Tenenbaums", "Starsky & Hutch", "Dodgeball", "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy", "Along Came Polly" and "Meet the Fockers". As of early 2007, Ben Stiller's most recent film is "Night at the Museum", and he continues to work as an actor, director and producer.
