Biography
Ben Affleck is an American film actor. He has appeared in a large number of popular Hollywood movies including his breakthrough role in "Good Will Hunting", and his career has been successful for over a decade. He is an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award winner. He is often associated with friend and fellow actor Matt Damon, with whom he has frequently appeared in movies.
Ben Affleck was born in Berkeley, California on August 15th, 1972. When his parents divorced he went to live in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He met Matt Damon when he was eight years old, they became best friends and they went to school together although they were different years. As a child, Ben Affleck found acting work in various TV movies as well as the PBS series "The Voyage of the Mimi". As high school ended, Ben Affleck appeared in various films such as "Dazed and Confused", "Mallrats" and "Chasing Amy". He became good friends with director Kevin Smith and has appeared in all of Kevin Smith's film with the exception of "Clerks", throughout his years of rising celebrity and even if his part has been only a cameo.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon became nationally famous after writing and starring in the film "Good Will Hunting", for which they received the Best Screenplay Oscar for 1997. Throughout the late nineties Ben Affleck appeared in many leading roles in action movies, including "Armageddon", "Changing Lanes", "Daredevil", and "The Sum of All Fears". In the early twentieth century his career was slowed by a series of box office failures, most notably the movie "Gigli" which was universally panned as one of the worst films of 2003 and was seen by almost no one despite a large national advertising campaign. In the years since then, Ben Affleck has been quiet apart from appearing in support of various Democratic political candidates. He has returned to Hollywood success recently for his critically acclaimed appearance in the 2006 film Hollywoodland, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. He continues to act, write and direct.
