Bebe Neuwirth is an actress who was appeared in theatre, film and television. She has been the recipient of the Emmy and Tony awards.
Bebe Neuwirth was born in Princeton, New Jersey on December 31st, 1958. During her early years she was interested in dance, taking dance lessons since she was five years old and studying it at Julliard in New York City after graduating from Princeton High School. She appeared in several musicals during this time, and worked with the Princeton Ballet Company. Bebe Neuwirth has appeared in numerous Broadway shows, including "A Chorus Line", "Little Me", "Sweet Charity", and "Damn Yankees". For her part in the 1986 revival of "Sweet Charity" she won a Tony Award. Her best recognized stage role, however, came in 1996 with "Chicago" where she played Velma Kelly. Her "Chicago" revival performance won her the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress, as well as the Drama Desk Award.
Bebe Neuwirth has also appeared in several films, including "Bugsy", "Jumanji", "Summer of Sam", "Say Anything", "Tadpole", "Green Card", and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days". She has made occasional television appearances, most notably the wife / ex-wife of Frasier Crane who appeared on "Cheers", "Wings" and "Frasier". Bebe Neuwirth won three Emmy Awards in all for playing this part - two Emmys during the initial run on "Cheers", and one for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her "Frasier" appearances. After the end of "Cheers", Bebe Neuwirth was reportedly offered lots of roles playing a similar character for various television and film projects, but turned down these offers to devote more time to musical theatre. As of 2007, Bebe Neuwirth continues to appear in musicals, and is also a recurring character on the popular criminal investigation television series "Law & Order: Trial by Jury".
