Biography
Beatrice Dalle is a French film actress whose career has spanned nearly over two decades. While she hasn't had any major international successes or well known Hollywood films, she has appeared in dozens of French films.
Beatrice Dalle was born in Brest, France on December 19, 1964 (note: some sources indicate that she was born in Le Mans, Sarthe, in France). As a young woman she first found work as a fashion model. She was discovered in 1986 by film director Jean Jacques Beineix, who gave her the leading role in the movie "37?2 le matin" (called "Betty Blue" in English). While the film did not do well commercially, it was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Foreign Language Film, and won a Cesar Award for its poster. The movie involves an early relationship between a girl named Betty (played by Beatrice Dalle) and a man named Zorg that alternates rapidly between positivity and negativity. It has been listed as one of Roger Ebert's most hated films.
The appearance in "Betty Blue" launched Beatrice Dalle's film career in France, and she has appeared in such French films as "La Vengeance d'une Femme (Vengeance of a Woman)", "La Visione del Sabba (The Vision of the Sabbath)", "D鳩r頤e Sacha Guitry", "La Fille de l'air (The Girl in the Air)" and "Le Temps du Loup (Time of the Wolf)". She almost got the leading female role in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis, but was denied the American work permit because of her police record, having been arrested in Miami for cocaine possession years before while filming her first American produced film "The Blackout" (a movie that did poorly). She has previously been married to Jean-Fran篩s Dalle, and in 2005 she married an inmate at a prison in Brest where she has been volunteering as a visitor. Beatrice Dalle continues to be a popular actress in France and to appear in several films a year.
