Biography
Audrey Tautou is a famous French actress. She is best known in France and throughout Europe, but also recognized worldwide for her leading appearances in the films "Amelie" and "The Da Vinci Code".
Audrey Tautou was born in Beaumont, France on August 9, 1978. As a child, she was interested in comedy and took acting lessons at the Cours Florent, a French drama school that offers a three year acting program to children ages seven and up. At the age of twenty, she won the title of Best Young Actress at the Beziers Festival of Young Actors and was recognized by the director Tonie Marshall. She then made her first significant film appearance in Tonie Marshall's "Venus Beauty Institute", which won a 1999 Cesar award, the national film award in France. A year later she won the Prix Suzanne Bianchetti, a French film award that has been given to the most promising young film actress since 1937. Audrey Tautou's various French film roles over the next few years included "Voyous Voyelles", "Le Libertin", and "Le Battement d'ailes du papillon".
Audrey Tautou then became an international film star with her appearance in the 2001 romantic comedy "Amelie". She continued to work in French film for the next four years, not taking part in a Hollywood movie until 2005, when she played opposite superstar Tom Hanks as the female lead in "The Da Vinci Code". While she has no lack of options for acting in big budget American films, Audrey Tautou has stated that her heart is in France and she intends to continue pursuing her career at home instead of moving to Los Angeles. As of early 2007, she continues to work hard, shooting several French movies every year, and over the course of her career she has so far been personally nominated for two Cesar Awards for Best Actress: one for "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain" (Amelie) in 2002, and one for "Un long dimanche de fian硩lles" in 2005.
