Biography
Atomic Kitten is an English girl group. Formed in Liverpool, the current members of the group as of early 2007 are Natasha Hamilton, Liz McClarnon and Jenny Frost. They have sold over 8 million albums and singles internationally and their chart topping songs and albums include the hits "Ladies Night", "Eternal Flame", "Whole Again", "Right Now" and "The Tide is High".
Atomic Kitten was put together by Andy McCluskey in 1997. McCluskey had previously been a member of the band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. The original lineup of Atomic Kitten, which included Kerry Katona along with Liz McClarnon and Natasha Hamilton, released their first single "Right Now" at the end of 1999. "Right Now" was a moderate success, making it to the British Top 10. Still, their record label was thinking about dropping them until they had a surprise number-one hit with the additional single "Whole Again". After the success of this single, the album "Right Now" was redone and released again, quickly reaching the number one position this time.
Atomic Kitten's career continued to thrive at this point, with the group recording a follow-up album entitled "Feels So Good", and attaining two more number one hit singles on the U.K. charts with a cover of The Bangles "Eternal Flame", and a remake of The Paragons' "The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)". This period also saw Atomic Kitten breaking away from founder Andy McCluskey.
The activities of the band from this point started to be increasingly influenced by Natasha's pregnancy. She became pregnant in 2002 and toured for some time with the baby before having to go on leave. During the beginning of the next year as Atomic Kitten toured in Asia, Natasha brought her baby along on tour. An attempt was made at this point to get the band greater exposure in America through the soundtrack of the Disney produced film "The Lizzie McGuire Movie", but didn't pay off. From that point Atomic Kitten decided to concentrate on their existing market. Shortly thereafter Natasha left the group to have more time with her baby son. While the group has continued to make occasional appearances, Natasha's absence has slowed things down and as of early 2007 they record only occasionally.
