Asia Argento is an internationally famous actress and director. who is currently in very high demand. She has appeared in a large number of Italian films but since the turn of the century has become better recognized around the world.
Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy on September 20, 1975. Her family is full of people in the movie industry, with her mother Daria Nicolodi being an actress and her father Dario Argento being a well known film maker in Italy for his development of modern slasher / horror films in the giallo genre. Asia Argento first appeared in a movie at the age of nine in the short television series "Sogni e bisogni" written by Sergio Citti. In 1988, she appeared in the leading role of the movie "Zoo", directed by Cristina Comencini. At the age of sixteen, she also appeared in one of her father's movies, "Trauma", where she had her first nude scene.
Asia Argento's acting career started to become highly successful with the release of the film "Amiche del cuore, Le" in 1992, which garnered strong reviews at the Cannes Film Festival, allowing her to play more complex roles. Other films during the mid-nineties which helped her achieve acclaim and awards included "Perdiamoci di vista!", "Condannato a nozze", and "Compagna di viaggio". She also directed some short films during this period, including a documentary about her father Dario Argento.
Starting in 1998, Asia Argento appeared in a number of American movies. She became very well known after her appearance in the highly successful summer action movie xXx in 2002, although she had a negative reaction to becoming more famous with a Hollywood agent and being offered lots of simplistic "kick-ass babe roles". In recent years, she has chosen movies for which she has a particular interest, such as "The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things", "Coin Locker Babies", and George A Romero's "Land of the Dead". She continues to have a busy acting career and her latest role as of early 2007 is in the upcoming movie "D鳥ngagement".
