Biography
Ashlee Simpson is an American singer-songwriter who has moved into acting with numerous television appearances and a reality series called The Ashlee Simpson Show. She is the younger sister of Jessica Simpson, also a famous pop-singer.
Ashlee Simpson was born in Waco, Texas on October 3, 1984. She started taking classical ballet lessons when she was three years old and at eleven went to New York City to attend the School of American Ballet. Ashlee Simpson's family moved to Los Angeles when Jessica Simpson got a recording contract, and Ashlee Simpson started acting in television commercials, then working as a backup dancer on Jessica Simpson's successful music tour. Ashlee Simpson continued making television appearances on shows such as the WB's "7th Heaven" and popular sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle", while writing and recording songs.
In 2004, Ashlee Simpson got a record contract with Geffen Records, and produced her debut album "Autobiography", co-writing all of the songs. "Autobiography" was a number one hit, and became multiplatinum within a few months. While many criticized it as being simplistic pop rock, Ashlee Simpson claimed it was very true to her feelings. The song "Pieces of Me" from "Autobiography" was one of 2004's biggest summer pop hits. At the same time, Ashlee Simpson was starring in "The Ashlee Simpson Show" on MTV, a reality show about Ashlee Simpson's personal life and recording career that was partly inspired by the success of her sister, Jessica Simpson's popular reality show "The Newlyweds", based on Jessica's marriage to Nick Lachey.
Later, in October 2004, Ashlee Simpson appeared as the musical guest on the popular comedy show Saturday Night Live. During her second song, a recording of her voice singing the previous song started playing. Embarrassed, Ashlee Simpson left the stage. This lip-synching incident caused some backlash against her career, with many television programs reporting on the event; however her music tour continued successfully.
As of early 2007, Ashlee Simpson continues to produce albums and has continued to appear on television and occasional stage roles.
